mirrored interiors and sculptural canyon-like forms shape skin1004’s soho flagship by LMTLS

By Beomki Lee

Designed by LMTLS, SKIN1004’s new SoHo flagship transforms retail into an immersive architectural landscape inspired by untouched nature. Sculptural forms, mirrored surfaces, and warm illuminated materials create a sensory environment that blurs the boundary between store, gallery, and exhibition space.

The second flagship store in SoHo, New York, for Korean skincare brand SKIN1004 was designed as an immersive spatial experience that moves beyond the conventions of traditional retail. Rather than focusing solely on product display and sales efficiency, the project translates the brand’s philosophy of ‘untouched nature’ and ‘brown landscape’ into a cohesive architectural environment where visitors can experience the identity of the brand through space, light, material, and atmosphere.

Responding to the evolving global retail landscape, the project integrates exhibition, event, and experiential functions into a unified flagship environment. At the center of the interior is the sculptural Nature Wall, an irregular architectural element inspired by natural valleys and eroded landscapes. The wall functions simultaneously as seating, product display, and sales counter, consolidating multiple retail functions into a single continuous gesture.

To visually expand the narrow proportions typical of SoHo retail spaces, the designers at LMTLS extend a 9-foot-high mirrored wall throughout the length of the store, creating the illusion of depth and transforming the interior into a canyon-like spatial experience. Custom curved wood millwork was fabricated to achieve both sculptural flexibility and construction efficiency, while warm illuminated surfaces provide a soft ambient glow reminiscent of natural light.

The spatial sequence unfolds through three primary zones: a dramatic double-height entry lounge for events and gathering, a more intimate retail and consultation area, and a rear experiential chamber featuring a large-scale mirror installation, LED media wall, and photo booth. Together, these elements create an environment that encourages visitors to engage with the brand in a memorable and sensory way. More than a retail store, the project was conceived as a museum-like environment where architecture and brand storytelling merge into a singular immersive experience.
