Joost Schmidt was a German sculptor, metalworker, and designer whose practice emerged from Bauhaus pedagogy in the 1920s. Working in steel, wood, and bronze, he developed geometric abstract forms that merged modernist sculpture with functional design principles. Schmidt taught at the Bauhaus and later directed the metalworking workshop, influencing a generation of makers through his integration of craft technique with avant-garde spatial thinking.
