Robert Colquhoun was a British painter and printmaker working in oil and lithography whose expressionistic figural works emerged from the rubble of postwar Europe. He developed a distinctive vocabulary of distorted, angular forms and muted earth tones that conveyed psychological unease and bodily fragmentation. His paintings and prints from the 1940s and 1950s established him as a significant voice in British neo-Romanticism, though his career was curtailed by his death in 1962.
