About

Why this artist matters now

Anne Ryan was an American artist who worked primarily in collage and printmaking during the mid-20th century. She created small-scale collages using torn paper, fabric, and found materials, developing a distinctive abstract formal language from humble everyday objects. Her work anticipated later developments in assemblage and material-based abstraction. Ryan maintained a studio practice in New York until her death in 1954.
