Tiffany & Co. Celebrates New York Knicks Championship with Special Flagship Tribute

By Alexandria Sillo

Tiffany & Co. is in a New York state of mind this week after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA finals to take home the championship. Following the team’s victory on Saturday, Tiffany’s Landmark building was lit up in blue and orange for the first time. The flagship will also display the Larry O’Brien Trophy on the sixth floor this week to coincide with the Knicks ticker tape parade for fans who want to see a piece of the victory up close. But the connection between basketball and Tiffany & Co. goes far beyond a hometown tribute.

Tiffany & Co.’s long history with the NBA began in 1977, with the first iteration of the Larry O’Brien Trophy. The version hoisted by Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, and the rest of the Knicks’ championship team this past weekend was introduced by the maison in 2022, and is handcrafted each year at the storied Tiffany Hollowware Workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Weighing approximately 30 pounds and standing 25.5 inches tall, the iconic trophy is crafted from sterling silver with a gold vermeil finish and is completed over the course of seven months. It’s hardly the only basketball trophy Tiffany & Co. has produced during its history, counting the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP Award, which this year was bestowed upon Brunson for his playoffs and finals heroics, the WNBA championship trophy, and the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Championship trophies. Tiffany & Co. also crafts championship trophies for the NFL, MLB, horse racing, tennis, and more.
