Sophia Narrett’s whimsical, intricate embroideries explode with energy and eroticism. Working entirely in yarn, the artist situates her libidinous figures within busy, fantastical realms that recall Hieronymus Bosch's busy landscapes, Faith Ringgold's narrative quilts, and Judy Chicago’s feminist needlework. Narrett celebrates the quirks of her craft material as she allows gaps to disrupt her compositions and tendrils to hang from her constructions. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Narrett has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Baltimore. Her work belongs in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, among other institutions.
