Drawing
Sturtevant re-created works by Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, Keith Haring, and others in deliberately inexact repetitions that interrogated authenticity, artistic celebrity, and originality itself. Beginning in 1964, her practice of "repetition" preceded and prefigured much of appropriation art's later discourse. She was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and, from 2000, shifted toward video addressing the politics of image production.
