Alexis Smith was an American artist working across drawing, collage, installation, and public art from the 1970s onward. Her practice combined found materials, text, and archival imagery to excavate overlooked narratives from American cultural history, particularly the intersection of landscape, labor, and desire in the postwar West. Smith's large-scale wall works and site-specific installations often incorporated vintage photographs, maps, and fragments of vernacular design, creating dense visual essays that resisted singular interpretation.
