Chen Zhen
Installation
Chen Zhen assembled immersive installations from found textiles, domestic objects, and salvaged materials to investigate cultural displacement and hybrid identity across Chinese and global contexts. Born in Shanghai in 1955, he embedded Buddhist and Daoist philosophical frameworks into formally rigorous environments that probed memory, translation, and the politics of belonging in an interconnected world. His practice moved fluidly between Shanghai and international venues, collapsing distinctions between craft tradition and contemporary installation until his death in 2000.
