Nancy Burson is an American artist and pioneer of digital portraiture who began experimenting with computer imaging in the 1970s, well before the technology became commonplace. Working primarily with photography and algorithmic manipulation, she creates composite and morphed images that interrogate identity, aging, and the constructed nature of visual representation. Her early work employed custom software to blend multiple faces into single portraits, revealing statistical patterns in human physiognomy.
