Geta Brătescu was a Romanian artist whose practice spanned painting, drawing, printmaking, and performance across seven decades. Working from Bucharest, she developed a distinctive approach to abstraction and figuration that engaged with both geometric and gestural mark-making. Her work interrogated the relationship between body, space, and representation through varied media, often employing repetition and seriality as structural principles. Brătescu remained largely underrecognized outside Romania during the Cold War period, and her contribution to postwar European modernism has gained wider scholarly attention in recent years.
