Half Indian/Half Mexican

James Luna was a Native American artist and performer whose practice spanned installation, video, and live performance. Working from the 1970s onward, Luna engaged directly with questions of indigenous identity, representation, and the politics of display within museums and institutional contexts. His work was characterized by a refusal of stereotypical imagery and a sharp critical engagement with how Native American bodies and cultures have been framed by anthropology and fine art institutions.
