Sketchbook

Over the course of her career as a weaver, Ethel Stein also proved to be a devoted draughtswoman. Stein’s sketchbooks which feature numerous figure studies done in a variety of media demonstrate her attention to exploring and examining the human form as a source of inspiration. Her weaving The Three Graces (2012.413) provides a striking example of the artist incorporating these figures into her woven work.
