Meret Oppenheim was a German-Swiss artist working in photography, sculpture, and mixed media whose practice challenged the boundaries between object and image. Born in Berlin and based in Switzerland from the 1930s onward, she became known for her surrealist interventions and conceptual approach to everyday materials. Her most iconic work, Object (1936), a fur-lined teacup, exemplifies her strategy of rendering the familiar uncanny through unexpected juxtaposition. Photography served as both documentation and medium in her exploration of metamorphosis and the poetic potential of ordinary things.
