The United Democratic Front was a South African anti-apartheid coalition active from 1983 to 1991, uniting over 600 civic, church, labor, and youth organizations. Rather than a single artist, the UDF functioned as a mass movement whose cultural work included protest graphics, performance, street theater, and visual agitation that became foundational to resistance aesthetics during the final decade of apartheid. Its visual and performative strategies anticipated many contemporary practices of collective and activist art.
