Artist

Richard Hell is an American musician, poet, and visual artist born in 1949 who emerged from the New York punk and no wave scenes of the mid-1970s. Working across music, writing, and performance, he developed a deliberately fragmented aesthetic that rejected coherence in favor of raw textual and sonic collage. His work in bands including Television and the Voidoids, alongside his poetry and visual practice, established a model of artistic refusal that prioritized conceptual provocation over technical mastery.
