Philip Hanson’s Head Pavilion studies are visible tangents from his Veiled Head (1967) etchings. In these works, he essentially built an architectural body, complete with windows for eyes, rather than simply focusing on the head. Hanson placed a portrait of a small, veiled figure inside the pavilion, revealing an interior that reflects the spectacle of the exterior. Head Pavilion III is a playful contraption: an amusementpark fun house on the brink of mechanical collapse.
