Photography
Marcel Broodthaers produced sculptures, films, prints, and painted objects that interrogate the relationship between text and image with an insistent, dry wit. A poet until age 40, he built a twelve-year visual practice around common objects and strategic appropriations from Duchamp and Magritte, treating language itself as material. His work has been the subject of major exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and Kunstmuseum Basel.
