Charles Addams was an American cartoonist and illustrator whose darkly comic drawings defined a visual language of gothic domesticity and macabre humor. Working primarily in ink and watercolor from the 1930s onward, he created a universe of eccentric families and grotesque characters that became iconic through his long association with The New Yorker magazine.
