David Tudor was an American pianist and composer whose pioneering work with electronic instruments and prepared piano fundamentally shaped postwar experimental music. A virtuoso interpreter of John Cage's compositions, he expanded the sonic possibilities of the piano through unconventional preparation techniques and early electronic synthesis, collaborating with Merce Cunningham's dance company and later developing his own sound installations.
