Painting
Jack Tworkov was a Polish-born painter who developed a gestural abstract style rooted in the interaction of color, line, and compositional rhythm. Working primarily in oil on canvas from the 1940s onward, he created large-scale works that emphasize the physical act of painting itself, with emphasis on directional brushstrokes and tonal modulation. Active in New York from mid-century, Tworkov's practice evolved through investigation of grid-based structures and organic linear movement.
