Interior by the Sea

Fannie Hillsmith was an American painter and printmaker active from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Working primarily in oil and watercolor, she developed a distinctive approach to landscape and still life that integrated modernist formal principles with close observation of natural forms. Her career spanned the postwar period and extended well into her later decades, during which she continued to refine her visual vocabulary.
