Emilio Vedova was an Italian abstract painter and sculptor whose gestural, large-scale works emerged from post-war expressionism. Working primarily in oil and mixed media, he developed a vigorous, non-representational language characterized by violent brushwork and layered, densely built surfaces that rejected both geometric abstraction and lyrical gesture. His practice spanned from the 1940s through the 1990s, establishing him as a central figure in European modernism during the Cold War era.
