Lucien Clergue was a French photographer and filmmaker known for his formal nude studies and landscape photography, often shot in black and white with an emphasis on sculptural form and abstraction. Working from the 1950s onward, he developed a practice that treated the human body and natural terrain as interrelated geometric subjects. His work bridged documentary photography and fine art, exploring the material properties of light and shadow across varied subjects including the Mediterranean coast and the female form.
