Joan Josep Tharrats was a Spanish painter and printmaker central to postwar Catalan modernism. Working primarily in oil and lithography, he developed an expressive abstract vocabulary that synthesized constructivist geometry with gestural mark-making, creating compositions of considerable formal precision and emotional intensity. Based in Barcelona, Tharrats was instrumental in establishing the artistic discourse of Catalonia during the Franco era and beyond.
