Althea McNish was a British textile designer and artist who created boldly patterned fabrics informed by her childhood in Trinidad and postwar modernist aesthetics. Working primarily in screen printing and weaving, she developed a distinctive visual language that combined geometric abstraction with organic motifs drawn from Caribbean flora and colonial textile traditions. Her designs were produced and exhibited internationally during the 1950s and 1960s, establishing her as a significant figure in postwar British pattern design. McNish's work bridged fine art and industrial production, challenging the hierarchies between craft and design that defined mid-century practice.
