Michael Loew
Drawing
Michael Loew was an American abstract painter whose postwar work combined geometric abstraction with gestural mark-making. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, he developed a vocabulary of overlapping planes and dynamic linear forms that negotiated between constructivist principles and expressionist impulse. Active from the 1930s through the 1980s, Loew's practice remained engaged with the formal vocabulary of modernism while resisting rigid stylistic orthodoxy.
