Drawing
Sari Dienes was an American artist and educator born in Hungary who worked primarily in printmaking, drawing, and collage throughout a career spanning seven decades. She developed a distinctive practice of rubbing and impression techniques applied to urban surfaces, streets, and found materials, translating the tactile evidence of the city into abstract compositions. Her work anticipated and influenced contemporary approaches to process-based abstraction and site-specific documentation. Dienes taught at several institutions and maintained an active studio practice into her nineties.
