Alvin Lustig was an American graphic designer and typographer whose work defined the visual language of postwar American modernism. Working primarily in book design, jacket illustration, and corporate identity, he synthesized European avant-garde principles with a distinctly American sensibility, establishing a vocabulary of geometric abstraction and restrained color that became foundational to mid-century design practice. His career, though cut short by his death in 1955, profoundly shaped the aesthetic conventions of publishing and branding for decades to follow.
