No Man’s Land

Jankel Adler was a German draughtsman whose work emerged from Expressionist practice in the early twentieth century. Working primarily in drawing, he developed a distinctive approach to figuration that engaged with modernist formal concerns while maintaining expressive intensity. Adler's career spanned the turbulent decades of Weimar Germany through World War II and his later years in Britain, where he continued to work until his death in 1949.
