Fougasse (Cyril Kenneth Bird)
Fougasse was a British cartoonist and illustrator whose satirical drawings defined twentieth-century comic art in Britain. Working primarily in pen and ink, he developed a distinctive linear style marked by sharp wit and economical line work that conveyed character and social observation with minimal marks. His work appeared regularly in Punch magazine and he became known for poster design and book illustration. His graphic economy and ability to distill human folly into a single expressive line made him influential among subsequent generations of British cartoonists and commercial illustrators.
