The Boudoir

Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence was an American painter working primarily in abstraction and figuration during the postwar period. Operating largely outside the critical apparatus of Abstract Expressionism, she developed a distinctive approach to color and form that synthesized modernist vocabulary with deeply personal spatial invention. Her work across oils, watercolors, and prints remains underrecognized in major institutional surveys.
