Eliot Porter is an American photographer known for color landscape and nature photography executed with exacting technical precision. Working primarily in color film from the 1940s onward, Porter developed a distinctive approach to capturing ecological subjects, from birds and insects to forest floors and waterscapes, with attention to chromatic subtlety and intimate scale. His work established color photography as a serious artistic medium at a time when it remained marginal to fine art practice.
