Abraham Walkowitz was an American painter and sculptor whose modernist abstractions, developed in the early twentieth century, synthesized Cubist and Futurist influences with a distinctly American sensibility. Working primarily in oil and bronze, he created dynamic compositions of fragmented forms and interpenetrating planes that engaged with the visual vocabulary of European avant-gardes while maintaining an independent formal logic.
