The Injured Eye (El Ojo enfermo)

Julio Castellanos was a Mexican painter active in the 1930s and 1940s whose figural work combined European modernist influences with Mexican cultural subject matter. Working primarily in oil, he developed a style that synthesized cubist spatial fracturing with representational clarity, often depicting scenes of daily life and social interaction. His practice emerged during a period of significant cultural recovery in Mexico following the revolution.
