Wells Coates was a Canadian architect and designer whose practice spanned industrial design, furniture, and interior architecture. Active from the 1920s through the 1950s, he developed a modernist aesthetic rooted in functionalism and material innovation, working across metal, plywood, and emerging synthetic materials. His designs for residential and commercial interiors established a vocabulary of clean geometric forms and rational spatial planning that influenced mid-century modernism across North America and Europe.
