Painting

Pierre Roy was a French painter associated with Surrealism and magical realism, working primarily in oil on canvas during the early-to-mid twentieth century. His compositions juxtaposed ordinary domestic objects and architectural fragments with dreamlike precision, creating tableaux that inhabited the space between representation and abstraction. Active from the 1920s onward, Roy developed a distinctive approach to still life and interior space that influenced the development of European modernism.
