Ilya Mashkov
Painting
Ilya Mashkov was a Russian painter and co-founder of the Jack of Diamonds (Bubnovyy Valet) group, instrumental in introducing Cubist and Fauvist idioms to early 20th-century Moscow. His still lifes and figure paintings combined bold, flattened color with structural distortion, departing sharply from academic convention. Active from the 1910s through the 1930s, Mashkov developed a distinctive approach to composition that bridged European modernism and Russian avant-garde sensibilities.
