Drawing
Louis Soutter was a Swiss painter and draughtsman whose late work, produced between the 1920s and 1940s, combined gestural abstraction with figural fragmentation. Working in isolation in the Swiss Alps, he developed a distinctive graphic language using ink and watercolor that anticipated mid-century modernism. His intense, expressionistic mark-making and increasingly non-representational compositions remain understudied in art historical discourse.
