<p>A pupil of Jacques-Louis David and of the landscape painter Pierre-Henri de Valenciennes, Michallon was<br>the first to be awarded the Prix de Rome for historical landscape in 1817. He studied at the French Academy in Rome between 1818 and 1821; this view from Ingres’s famous studio sports a still life of the artist’s shaving equipment, hairbrush, and painter’s box.</p>
