A Saint Clothing the Poor Among the Ruins of an Earthquake

Edme Bouchardon was a French sculptor of the 18th century, active primarily in Paris and Rome. Working in marble and bronze, he produced monumental public commissions, portrait busts, and decorative reliefs that exemplified the transition from late Baroque to early Neoclassical sculptural practice. His works combined classical restraint with ornamental refinement, establishing him as a leading figure in French academic sculpture during the reign of Louis XV.
