Adriaen Backer was a Dutch painter active in Amsterdam during the seventeenth century, known for portraits and religious scenes executed in oil. Working within the conventions of Dutch Golden Age portraiture, he produced commissioned works for Amsterdam's merchant class and ecclesiastical patrons.
