Gerbrand van den Eeckhout was a Dutch Golden Age painter and printmaker active in Amsterdam during the mid-seventeenth century. He trained under Rembrandt and developed a practice centered on biblical narrative, portraiture, and historical scenes executed in oil and etching. His compositions demonstrate the tonal sophistication and dramatic lighting characteristic of Amsterdam's Rembrandt circle, with particular attention to rendering fabric, flesh, and architectural detail. Van den Eeckhout maintained an independent workshop and received commissions from patrician and merchant clients throughout his career.
