Jan de Bisschop was a Dutch draughtsman and printmaker of the seventeenth century, known for his detailed pen-and-ink studies after classical sculpture and Old Master paintings. Working in Amsterdam during the mid-1600s, he produced instructional drawing manuals that circulated widely among artists, establishing him as an influential theorist of artistic practice. His etchings and drawings served both as records of antiquity and as pedagogical tools for the training of younger artists in proportional and compositional principles.
