Saint Philip Neri (1515–1595)

Carlo Dolci was a Florentine painter of religious subjects known for meticulous devotional works executed in oil on small copper panels and canvas. Working in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany during the 17th century, he developed a highly finished technique characterized by luminous flesh tones, jewel-like color, and intricate attention to fabric and ornamental detail. His small-scale altarpieces and half-length figures of saints and the Virgin were prized by ecclesiastical and private collectors across Europe. Dolci's deliberate, slow working method and perfectionism made him one of the most sought-after painters of his era in Florence.
