Tuan Andrew Nguyen
Cultural Positioning
Why this artist matters now
Tuan Andrew Nguyen works across video, sculpture, installation, and mixed media to reconstruct colonial histories, war, displacement, and material memory through poetic, research-driven narratives. Co-founder of Ho Chi Minh City artist collective The Propeller Group and the exhibition space Sàn Art, his practice is built on sustained community engagement and collaborative storytelling, often incorporating found and culturally charged objects alongside moving image. His work enters the body through accumulated testimonies and material traces rather than direct documentation. Held in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, among others, his practice occupies a significant place in contemporary postcolonial discourse.
