Why this artist matters now
Nancy Carline was a British painter working across landscapes with figures, portraiture, and classical and biblical subjects rendered in domestic interiors. Trained at the Slade School of Art, she worked as a designer for Sadler's Wells Ballet before pursuing stage design under Vladimir Polunin. Her practice emerged within the artistic circle of the Carline family in Hampstead, where she remained based throughout her career.
