About
Why this artist matters now
Kanō Yasunobu was a painter and theorist of the Kanō school during Japan's Edo period. The youngest brother of Kanō Tan'yū, he headed the Kyoto branch from 1623 and is best known for the Gadō Yōketsu, a foundational manual of Kanō school technique and history that codified the lineage's painting principles. His work maintained the school's refined brushwork and compositional structure while documenting its pedagogical methods for subsequent generations.
