Joseph François Parrocel was a French painter of historical and military scenes whose compositions drew on the grand tradition of history painting. Active in eighteenth-century Paris, he worked in oil on large canvases, depicting battles and ceremonial events with dramatic perspective and narrative clarity. His approach to military subject matter established him as a significant practitioner of the academic tradition during the reign of Louis XV.
