Josef Čapek was a Czech painter, writer, and graphic designer whose work encompassed cubism, expressionism, and abstraction across painting, illustration, and applied arts. A co-founder of the modernist movement in Czechoslovakia, he worked across multiple media including stage design and book illustration throughout the early twentieth century.
